Since 1890, The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command has had long-term experience in understanding the barriers that prevent economically-disadvantaged populations from meeting their basic needs.
Many of the people we serve are on fixed incomes, earning minimum wage, supporting multiple family members on a single wage or simply not working at all. In particular, our nine Financial Emergency Service Centers, Red Shield Services and Transitional Housing Shelter, Residential Camping program, and three Boys and Girls Clubs serve people primarily living in poverty.
Even after two World Wars, the Great Depression, and various world, local and national Disasters, the Salvation Army continues to Do the Most Good throughout Atlanta via the following comprehensive and effective, emergency and long-term, assistance programs:
CORPS COMMUNITY AND WORSHIP CENTERS [8 facilities]
The Salvation Army’s Corps Community Centers offer educational, recreational and spiritual resources, as well as a range of social services to provide a holistic ministry.
BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF GREATER ATLANTA [3 facilities]
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta is affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the United Way of Metro Atlanta. The purpose of our Boys & Girls Clubs is to provide youth development services and to promote the health, physical, social, educational, vocational and character development of boys and girls.
SHELTER SERVICES [3 facilities]
The Salvation Army Red Shield Services provides homeless men, women and families a warm bed, a safe place to stay and two meals a day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. William Booth Towers shelters and cares for senior citizens. The Salvation Army Gwinnett Corps Community Center’s “Home Sweet Home“ program marked the expansion of Salvation Army homeless services in to the Gwinnett County area.
FINANCIAL EMERGENCY SERVICES [9 facilities]
The Salvation Army Financial Emergency Services Caseworkers work with clients to provide any number of valuable resources, including short-term assistance with emergency food, clothing and other household needs, eviction assistance, and ongoing case-management to help clients regain their self-sufficiency.
During the various holiday seasons The Salvation Army helps families in need by providing congregate meals and groceries, gifts for children, new clothing and warm-weather wear, and visitation to the elderly and imprisoned who have no one to care for them.
In Atlanta and around the world, when flood waters rise, when tornadoes wreak havoc in neighborhoods, when fires destroy homes and dreams – that’s when The Salvation Army demonstrates Christian service at its best, with not only food and supplies, but prayers and counseling.
RAY & JOAN KROC CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER
The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides economically disadvantaged men, women and children with spiritual, social service, recreational and cultural activities that help to build character, stabilize families and restore confidence.
